Verst Group Logistics provides integrated warehousing, transportation, logistics and packaging services in the Midwest and Southeast United States for a wide range of consumer goods companies in the food and grocery, health and beauty, paper, automotive and beverage sectors. Verst employs a diverse workforce, including office and warehouse workers, as well as drivers who are out on the road.

Solutions

Verst offers LifeSpeak to its approximately 100 managers and front line Customer Service Representatives as a way to support personal improvement and professional development. LifeSpeak complements the individual coaching that managers provide their direct reports, and reinforces and refines employees’ specific work skills. Verst requires that its managers view certain professional development trainings such as Positive Thinking, The Leader as Coach and Respect in the Workplace, to learn strategies and practical tips to improve their management skills. To enable this targeted use of the trainings, LifeSpeak worked with Verst to customize a process for tracking individual user activity. This system allows LifeSpeak to monitor the completion of trainings by each of Verst’s managers. At the end of each year, a report on individual usage is provided to Human Resources which allows the company to track compliance.

Results

Verst has provided their managers with high-quality professional development training that they can access where and when they need it most, at a fraction of the cost of live training, and without taking them away from their desks in order to engage in it. Compliance with completing this training is at 100%. Although the initial library was limited to professional development trainings, Verst has now expanded its LifeSpeak library to include wellness trainings. Employees who watch these trainings will earn points that can be used towards a reduction in their insurance premiums starting in 2016. There are plans to open the program up to all 500 employees in the future.
